“You Don’t Need A Fancy Degree To
Compose Meaningful, Effective,
Testimony-Building Church Music!”

“Any member of the Church with some musical background can learn to use the powerful tools of the master composers in their own Primary Songs, Hymns, and Hymn Arrangements.”

“If you have a burning desire to ‘bring the world His truth’ through music, I can show you how to compose stirring Gospel-centered pieces without having to labor through YEARS of formal training.”

Dr. Douglas Pew
Shows Church music enthusiasts
how to compose powerful music
without needing a fancy music degree.

Dear Friend,

If you’ve heard the call to serve the Lord’s Kingdom through writing music filled with your testimony, then this message will show you how.

Here’s the deal…

I’ve created a monthly program called:

“Latter-Day Musivangelists”

This ongoing monthly coaching program is designed to help fill your mind and soul with ideas and concepts that help you compose powerful pieces of music. The kind of music that leaves a testimony legacy to your family.

Even though I have several degrees in music (4, to be exact), I’ve had remarkable testimony-building experiences from music composed by composers without formal composition training.

The Song That Rescued Me From Depression As A Missionary

During a particularly difficult time as a young missionary, a letter from my Dad reminded me vividly of a piece he composed. We sang his piece, “I Believe,” in our Stake Youth Choir when I was in high school.

As I read the comforting words of my Dad’s testimony, it reminded me of his song. And the memory of that song, the memory of his testimony coming through the words and melody gave me hope and courage to carry on.

My Dad doesn’t have any degrees in music. But what he does have is the key to writing this kind of testimony-piece. And it’s the basis of what we do inside the Latter-Day Musivangelist monthly program.

But before I tell you what this key ingredient was and how you can easily cultivate in your own life and music work, let me assure you that…

You CAN Do This! To Paraphrase D&C Section 4...
“If You Have Desires To Serve Through Music,
You Are Called To The Work!”

Don’t let anyone tell you, you CAN’T write a beautiful piece of music. And please, don’t let the memory of a rude musician sway you from trying. Far too often, “educated” musicians (and I’m one of them, so I can pick on them/us) come across as offensive. But please, take it from me, you CAN do this! And my students are PROOF (see their comments below).

Now, you can learn to compose a new hymn, or a Primary Song or Hymn Arrangement by enrolling at your local University’s music department. But it will cost thousands of dollars in tuition and your instruction will NOT focus exclusively on the writing of meaningful, testimony-laden music for the Church.

Or you can become a member of the Latter-Day Musivangelist monthly group coaching program and receive...

A Much More Focused, Ongoing Training For A
Fraction Of The Price Of University Tuition.

More than anything else on my personal journey… through 4 advanced degrees in music… through premiers at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center, and many other venues… what’s made the BIGGEST difference in my quest to compose powerful sacred music… the kind that transmits pure testimony… is what we’ll focus on most of all in the Latter-Day Musivangelist Program.

That is, you’ve got to have what my Dad had going for him when he wrote the song that helped me so much during my hard times.

You need to have a consistent way of...

Filling Your Mind With A Constant Flow Of
Powerfully Emotive Musical Ideas!

You need to keep your well of ideas full so when the Spirit moves you to compose, you’re primed and ready. This gives you a reservoir of great ideas that will turn your testimony legacy music into something that will impact your family for generations to come!

And that’s exactly why I created the...

Monthly Membership Program

Currently Closed to New Members.
Will Re-Open Near the End of 2021.

As a member of Latter-Day Musivangelists you’ll receive:

    • Sealed-off access to the “Musivangelist Study Hall”: This is a hidden area inside the Latter-Day Musiversity smartphone app reserved only for Musivangelist members in good standing. All monthly trainings, critiques, Zoom calls, and all other membership content will be found inside this secret chamber of the app. NOTE: a desktop platform of the app is in development by the app company. In the meantime, for those who wish to see these materials on a desktop computer, I load them into a Teachable.com platform for your use.

    • One Monthly Masterpiece Analysis (first week of the month): I’ll pull apart a work from the standard classical repertoire to feed your musical idea machine on a steady diet of GREAT composition techniques. Without regular consumption of music by the masters, and getting inside their heads and hearts, you’ll deny yourself the MOST IMPORTANT practice of composers who know how to leave their testimony legacy in music. This is a pre-recorded training delivered inside the Musivangelist app.

    • Weekly office hours. Every Friday at 2pm mountain time (unless otherwise indicated due to holidays, etc.), we'll have open office hours for all members. Bring what you're working on, let's have a look and help you get your writing sharpened up.

    • Substantial Discounts On Products Inside the Latter-Day Musiversity Store: You'll get a 20% discount on all future courses I release. And I have several in the works. You just have to be a Musivangelist in good standing to get the discounts. Things like the up and coming Primary Song course, Conducting course, and others.

    • Private 30-Minute Critiques Of Your Music for Only $50 Each: Going forward, the only people who will have access to my 30-minute $50 critiques are Musivangelist members in good standing. But I only have a very limited number of slots each week. Somewhere in the 6 to 10 range, depending on the week.

Here’s what some of my students are saying about our work together…

I really enjoyed participating in Dr. Pew’s hymn arranging and hymn writing classes. I was impressed with both his extensive knowledge and his great teaching skills.

He carefully balanced the various needs of class members—who were at different musical levels. He not only welcomed questions but also listened carefully to determine how to increase our understanding.

He taught in a positive, kind and supportive way, yet he also pushed us to the next level. And his humor was a bonus! I highly recommend his classes!

Dr. Douglas Pew is a master of teaching others how to share their testimonies through music.

My own personal mission is to bring others to Christ by participating in sacred music. My ability to do this has been strengthened significantly through Doug’s guidance.

His experiences and expertise at all levels of music and music writing have helped me to find my musical voice in persuading others to come to Christ. Come with your testimony, and come with your passion for music, and Doug can help with the rest.
    — Mark Richins
“Doug’s Hymn-writing class has been a godsend for someone without any training in composition or much background in musical theory. He is, truly, a musical Renaissance-man. He is an expert when it comes to music history, theory, application, etc. He is a tireless worker who has created a remarkable number of useful aids for making his students more successful.

For example, he has made a series of graphs for keeping control of the meter when composing. It used to take me 2-3 years to come up with a hymn text. Now with the help of his chart, I was able to create a reasonable text draft with 5 verses in 2 weeks!

Doug is personable and makes his hour-long classes enjoyable. He is a very kind and exceedingly helpful critic. Rather than being intimidated, I find these sharing sessions exciting now, and look forward to them, knowing that my efforts will be appreciated and improved.

Thanks to this experience, I have developed a confidence in my abilities that I have never had before.”
